Volkswagen . How to Change the Cabin Air Replacement Filter in a 2002 Honda OdysseyThe 2002 Honda Odyssey uses an air filter to pull out any debris or contaminants that may get sucked in from the air conditioner blower motor. The filter helps to ensure that the air quality in the van is clean and free from dust, pollen or other irritants that might invade the passenger compartment. Replacing the filter should only take 30 minutes and is something even the less mechanically inclined can accomplish without trouble. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Flat-tip screwdriver Phillips-head screwdriver Socket set Socket wrench New cabin air filter Step by Step : 1 Pry the passenger-side dash cover off with a flat-tip screwdriver. The dash cover is held on by plastic clips that lock it to the dash. 2 Open the glove box and unscrew the four screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pry the hooks on the side of the glove box away from the glove box by hand. 3 Unbolt the glove box compartment frame by removing the two bolts at the bottom of the frame with a socket wrench. Pull the frame out from the dash assembly. This will make access to the filter simpler. 4 Remove the filter cover by hand. The filter cover will pull away from the assembly. 5 Slide the air filter out from the housing. Vacuum out the filter assembly to remove any dust or debris. Replace with a new filter. 6 Pop the cover back on to the housing. The cover will lock in place. 7 Bolt the glove compartment frame back to the dash assembly. Tighten the bolts with a socket wrench. 8 Position the glove box back in until it locks in place. Screw the four screws at the bottom with a Phillips-head screwdriver. 9 Pop the dash in place. Ensure the dash locks in place. Tips & Warnings Some models have a plastic strap that runs behind the glove box. This strap can be sliced with a razor knife as it serves no purpose but can cause interference with the cabin air filter.
Volkswagen . How to Replace the Vent Filter in a 2007 Acura MDX & RDXBoth the 2007 Acura MDX and the 2007 Acura RDX use the same-size vent filter, which is located in the same place on both vehicles. The vent filter is more commonly known as the cabin air filter. It keeps the air conditioning and vent system in the cabin of the vehicle clean and free of dust and allergens. Acura recommends replacing the filter every 10,000 miles or once a year. Driving in heavy traffic or dusty conditions will cause the filter to become dirty more quickly. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Replacement vent filter Step by Step : 1 Open the glove box. Remove any contents. Unhook the stop bar on the right side of the open glove box by pulling it out away from the glove box. 2 Push in on both sides of the glove compartment to unhook the glove box from the dash. Tilt the glove box down to expose the vent filter compartment. 3 Pull the filter frame toward the rear of the vehicle to remove it from the compartment. Remove the old filter from the frame. 4 Insert the new vent filter into the filter frame. Make sure the tabs on the sides of the frame cover the filter. Slide the filter frame into the filter compartment. 5 Tilt the glove compartment up to hook it back into place on the dash. Replace the lock bar on the right side of the glove compartment. Front seals usually have the biggest leaks. • If the problem is the rear seal, the technician must remove your driveshaft, but your transmission can stay in place. If your transmission must be overhauled: Volkswagen . Carly friends name in the actual total truth?
Chevrolet Avalanche 2500. * • The transmission should be removed and disassembled. • The seals, clutches, bands, and bushings that are worn or defective should be replaced. Chapter 17: What to Do If Your Transmission Stops Running Smoothly " If your transmission must be replaced: The old transmission must be removed and a new one installed. You do have an option as to whether you replace it with a used, rebuilt, or new transmission. I make the distinction between used and rebuilt because you can buy a transmission from a wrecking yard that has salvaged one designed for your vehicle's year, make, and model. This option is cheap, but risky. Or you can find a rebuilt one that has been salvaged and then completely refurbished and warranted for at least three months. These cost a bit more, but you get a chance to make sure that the thing is in good working order. Occasionally, gearshifts may become hard to move. This problem can happen if the gearshift linkage, which connects the shift lever to the rods that go to the transmission, needs adjustment, lubrication, or minor repair. These repairs aren't expensive and should certainly be investigated before you let anyone talk you into major transmission work. Volkswagen . What is the ticket symbol for enterprise car rental?

All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles usually have an additional component called a transfer case. Expect to pay more for transaxle repairs and transmission repairs on vehicles with a transfer case. As you can see, knowing what kind of transmission work is necessary can save you from paying for more work than you need. A number of other things can go wrong and seem to indicate that you need major transmission work to correct them; yet these problems often can be fixed for very little money. An unscrupulous mechanic can diagnose one of the problems as a major transmission breakdown and charge you hundreds of dollars when the real solution could be achieved for much less. (See "Those low-transmission-fluid blues" and "The malfunctioning vacuum modulator caper," earlier in this chapter, for two of these scams.) Protecting \loursetf from Being RippedOff on Transmission Work When your transmission needs work, you have to rely on professionals, but that doesn't mean that you have to blindly accept whatever they tell you. Transmission repairs can range from regular service, which is relatively simple and inexpensive, to highly complicated and very expensive rebuilds and replacements. The best way to get an accurate diagnosis and the repairs that your vehicle really needs is to follow the advice I give in this section. Do not let the technician take the thing apart. Once your transmission is in pieces, you're a sitting duck. Have the specialist drive the car, listen to it, ask you questions about its history and its symptoms, and give you his or her ideas. The technician may say, "You may just need your bands tightened, or you may need a new transmission; I can't tell until I open it up." Fine. Ask for estimates for both jobs and, if the prognosis is expensive, get additional estimates. You'd see several doctors before choosing one for major surgery, wouldn't you? Here are some guidelines for getting the best deal on major transmission work: * Get three estimates, or more if the first three vary widely. Discard the highest estimates. Discard a very low one, too: If it seems way out of line with the others, it may be a hustle. Then return to the place with the fairest price and/or the best vibes. Of course, an enthusiastic recommendation from someone you know who is fairly knowledgeable about cars is usually worth extra points when you're deciding. But I'd get at least one other estimate anyway. 0 After the work is underway, ask to be notified about what they find when they open it up. Will it be a simple adjustment or a major rebuild? Get the estimated costs on the receipt, signed by you, before the actual work begins, and ask to be called if that estimate changes because they uncover other problems. 0 Ask them to save the parts they replace so that you can see what you paid for. Consumer laws in many states hold the repair facility responsible for failing to provide a written estimate, for failing to notify the customer if the estimate increases radically because more problems have been uncovered, and for failing to turn over parts that have been replaced when you've asked that they be saved. Now go home, cross your fingers, and wait for the operation to be over. Of course, you may still be ripped off, but you'll know that you've done everything possible to prevent it. And because you've been so canny about estimates, open about shopping around, familiar with the transmission itself (read Chapter 9), and insistent about written estimates and such, you just might scare someone who would like to cheat you into doing a good job and charging you properly for it. If this whole thing sounds paranoid, so be it. The fact is that a few bad apples give the honest, hard-working, car-loving, competent transmission specialists a lot of competition. So go ahead and be paranoid — it can't hurt. You haven't done anything to insult the shop; you've just been careful.
